Portraits/Studio

Given an assignment of using studio lighting to photograph a portrait & fashion shoot was challenging yet exciting. To keep in with my 'Cap' and keep the form of action & movement, the idea of having a boxer for a portrait came to mind. My good friend Dallas Stuart is an amateur boxer, skater & maori art artist and was keen to be my model. I would also use him for my fashion shoot, and as I love skating and love to wear skate shoes it felt right to use his vintage vans (skating shoes) as my fashion shoot.

Since we had time on our hands I also shot a portrait with some of his artwork.

I decided on Black n White for the boxing portrait as it created a strong, high contrasted, dramatic feel with less distraction that sometimes colour can cause.

A vintage feel was given for the skateshoes as they were the old style vans. They were skater worn and thought this process worked well with the shots.

The artistic portrait I used an illustrative look (not HDR), it would highlight his work and gave Dallas a strong presence, which matched his artistic skill.
